Vodafone Ireland and ESBIE announce €3 million deal

Vodafone Ireland is to source its electricity from ESB Independent Energy (ESBIE) for the next 12 months in a deal worth in excess of € 3 million. This agreement will see ESBIE providing Vodafone Ireland’s Data Centre office in North Dublin and Mountainview Office in Leopardstown with 32 GWH and 6 GWH of electricity respectively.
ESBIE will provide renewable energy to the two Vodafone offices for the next 12 months. The power for this deal will be sourced from ESBIE’s ever increasing portfolio of renewable energy, most recently bolstered by the addition of the output of 34MW’s from the Mountain Lodge wind farm in Co. Cavan which was commissioned late last year. Within the last couple of months ESBI announced plans to buy a 20 MW, 8 turbine wind farm in Co. Tyrone with a further three wind farms coming on stream by the middle of 2010.
ESBIE provides electricity supply and energy efficiency services to the industrial and business sectors of the Irish market. A company within the ESB Group, ESBIE competes in the all island single electricity market offering businesses highly competitive pricing backed by top class customer service.
Octavio Hernandez, Programme Manager, Green Agenda, Vodafone Ireland said,
“Vodafone Ireland is committed to achieving a 30% reduction in its carbon emissions over the next 3 years. In our comprehensive environmental strategy we identified 66 operational initiatives which will be implemented across 3 core areas: Energy, Transport and Waste and Handset Recycling.
This deal with ESBIE represents a significant progress within our environmental strategy. ESBIE has a proven track record of delivering an environmentally sustainable product at a highly competitive price. Importantly the team also delivers a world class commitment to service.
Liam Molloy, Managing Director, ESBIE said, “We are delighted that ESBIE is working with Vodafone Ireland to help it achieve its environmental targets and we look forward to working with the company to provide key account management and energy efficiency support services. Given the increasing level of competition in the market, we are committed to meeting all the needs of our existing and new customers as we continue to grow the business through the delivery of tailored energy solutions at highly competitive prices, combined with first class customer service.”
