ESB Independent Energy Powers National Aquatic Centre
ESB
Independent Energy (ESBIE) a subsidiary supply company of ESB has signed
a new contract to power the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown.
The €500,000
electricity deal will see ESBIE supplying four megawatts of electricity;
the equivalent of powering 400,000 homes, to the National Aquatic Centre,
which is one of Europe’s largest indoor water
and leisure centres.
ESBIE will source power for this contract from
its gas fired Dublin Bay Power station on the Poolbeg Peninsula and
its Coolkeeragh power station near Derry.
The National Aquatic Centre opened to the public in 2003. Since then
it has attracted over 2.5 million visitors. The Centre facilities include
a 50 metre pool, diving pool with Olympic diving boards and major leisure
waterpark. It successfully hosted the swimming events of the 2003 Special
Olympics World Summer Games and the European short course Championships.
